PROJECTS

Paula’s Project

The Room to Dream Foundation went to work for a fun loving family in Randolph, MA. Paula, Adrianna, Hector and Andrea received a makeover courtesy of a group of special volunteers. Greg Hughes, Scott Wright and Pat DePriest gathered their friends and family for a fundraising event at the Boston Sail Loft. They invited everyone they knew to watch a Patriot’s game, celebrate football and raise money for Room to Dream. Through their efforts and enthusiasm they were able to raise enough funds to make over the rooms for this great family. In addition to their fundraising efforts they made a volunteer commitment to work on makeover weekend.

“I am always looking for a way to help and combining fundraising with sports was a win for everyone!” says Hughes.

Wright was pleased when they learned they could work on the project doing something they were good at. “When the project schedule came out I knew exactly how we could help the most – in college we worked summers painting. We arrived early, got straight to work and by noon the rooms had a fresh coat of misty lilac and harbor fog.”

Volunteers worked to energize and organize Paula, Adrianna and Andrea’s room. Three growing girls in one room is always a challenge. Room to Dream provided fresh paint, new bedding, and curtains as well as much needed organization and new furniture. The outcome was a creative design, maximized space and functional organization.

Hector received a fun makeover for an energetic boy with new bedding, a transportation and cars theme and a space he can call all his own. The project did not stop there, efforts extended into the family’s space where a basement playroom was made into a comfortable place where they can all relax and spend time as a family. Cushions and rugs were added, a reading corner was created and lighting was supplemented.

Jennifer Valenzuela worked as liaison and interpreter for Paula and her family. Volunteers waited patiently by when the family came home as Jennifer walked them from room to room to see their new healthy space. Jenn explains their reaction “when Mom was walking into the kids’ rooms, she kept putting her hand to her cheek. In Puerto Rico, this gesture, with all your fingertips together, means ‘so beautiful.’ Mom’s hand kept going to her cheek as she was so in love with the rooms.” A thank you we will always hold close to our hearts.

Many of the projects the Room to Dream Foundation takes on are funded through individual donations and do not have the support of corporate sponsors.
